About crypto sectors
Crypto sectors (also called crypto categories or narratives) group coins by what they do: base-layer chains, layer-2 networks, DeFi protocols, exchange and perpetual-DEX tokens, AI and big-data projects, memecoins, real-world assets, payments, privacy, gaming, DePIN, social and media. Watching money rotate between them is one of the few ways to see a market theme forming before it shows up in the total market cap.
Coinfuty builds every sector from coins with a live perpetual futures market, so each sector carries data spot-only lists cannot: open interest, open-interest share, the OI-weighted funding rate and 24-hour liquidations. Each coin belongs to exactly one primary sector based on its category tags; coins that match several tags take the highest-priority sector and coins without a recognised tag are grouped as Other.
Sector returns are equal-weight, so a sector's number is the average of its coins rather than a reflection of its biggest name. The rotation chart compounds those daily averages from base 100, and the open-interest share chart shows how the futures market's leverage is distributed across sectors over the last year.

Right now Layer 2 leads with −2.35% over 24 hours, averaged equally across its 32 coins, while Social & Media trails at −6.08%. Over 30 days the strongest sector is Layer 2 at +35.17%. The heatmap and the table refresh every hour.
How are coins assigned to crypto sectors?
Each coin belongs to exactly one primary sector based on its category tags. Coins that carry several tags take the highest-priority sector — a meme token on Solana is Meme, not Layer 1, and an AI project that is also a DePIN network is AI & Big Data. Coins without a recognised tag are grouped as Other. Click any sector in the heatmap or the table to list its coins.
Why is Layer 1 so dominant in open interest?
Because Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana and the other base-layer chains are the most traded perpetual contracts, and the sector is measured by open interest rather than coin count. Layer 1 currently holds 71.6% of all futures open interest ($80.40B). That is why the treemap sizes cells by number of coins by default and why the open-interest share chart opens with Layer 1 excluded — otherwise a single band flattens everything else.
How are the sector indexes calculated?
Each sector index is equal-weight and rebalanced daily: every day we average the daily return of all coins in the sector, each counting the same regardless of size, and compound that average from base 100. Coins join on their listing day. Because the daily rebalance keeps buying laggards and trimming leaders, an equal-weight index of volatile coins can run ahead of simply holding the same coins — the rebalancing premium — so compare sectors against each other rather than against buy-and-hold. The 7-day and 30-day columns in the table are chained the same way.
What is the memecoin index?
The Meme sector index from the same method: an equal-weight, daily-rebalanced basket of every memecoin with a perpetual futures market, compounded from base 100 and plotted against Bitcoin rebased to 100 on the same day, with the sector's share of total open interest underneath. When the meme line pulls away from Bitcoin while its open-interest share rises, speculative leverage is rotating into the smallest, fastest coins.

Social & Media currently carries the highest open-interest-weighted funding at +0.0229% per day, meaning longs there pay the most to hold their positions; Layer 2 sits at the other end at −0.0497%. Funding is the OI-weighted average of the latest daily rate across each sector's coins.
