Indicator overview

How the ETF Holdings is calculated

share = US spot Bitcoin ETF net assets / (close × circulating supply)

Net assets are the combined holdings of the US spot Bitcoin ETFs at each day's close, from the same data as the ETF tracker. Market cap uses the daily close and the issuance-schedule supply, so the ratio is the share of all Bitcoin held through these funds.

What it signals

A rising share means the funds are absorbing supply faster than the network issues it — the structural bid behind the 2024–25 advance. The 10% threshold marks a level at which the funds hold roughly a tenth of all coins; crossing it while flows are still positive would be an extreme of institutional concentration. A falling share with stable price means redemptions are being met by other buyers.

Limitations

  • Net assets move with price as well as flows — read together with the outflow streak.
  • US-listed funds only; other jurisdictions' ETPs are excluded.

Frequently asked questions

How much Bitcoin do the ETFs hold?

US spot Bitcoin ETFs held $147.8B, 9.06% of BTC market cap, as of Sep 3, 2026.

Why compare ETF assets with market cap?

It shows the share of all Bitcoin held through the funds, independent of price. A rising share means the ETFs are absorbing supply faster than the network issues it; a falling share means redemptions are being met by other buyers.

Why is 10% the threshold?

At a tenth of the network held by a handful of funds, institutional concentration would be at an extreme, and previous cycles have topped when one category of buyer dominated the flow. The level is Coinfuty's own calibration, not a published standard.

Does net assets include price changes?

Yes — net assets move with both flows and price, which is why the page shows the outflow streak alongside it.

Coinfuty computes every series on this page from daily BTC close prices and public constants — the Bitcoin halving schedule, block subsidy and published regression coefficients. Values refresh nightly (00:20 UTC) and the current day is patched hourly. These are historical, backward-looking indicators; nothing here is investment advice.
