Ethereum Yearly Returns

Historical price returns computed from daily futures closes: monthly and quarterly heatmap, weekly strip, weekday averages and yearly totals. Month return = last close of the month vs the previous month's last close; quarters and years compound the months.

About Ethereum (ETH) yearly returns

This page lists every year of Ethereum (ETH)'s history on Coinfuty as a single compounded annual return, next to its month-by-month texture. Ethereum's yearly rows compress its cycle history into single figures: back-to-back triple-digit years into 2021, the deep 2022 unwind, and the choppier ETF-era years since. The month strip beside each total shows how much of every year came from just one or two months — a recurring ETH pattern.

Each year compounds its twelve monthly returns from UTC daily closes, with the current year riding as a year-to-date row until it closes. ETH's data starts at its perpetual listing in November 2019. That window frames Ethereum's modern era — DeFi summer 2020, the 2021 double-peak, the 2022 unwind and the ETF-era regime after it.

Frequently asked questions

How much has ETH returned in 2026 so far?

Ethereum is down 15.6% year-to-date in 2026, compounding 9 completed months plus October to date, through the daily close of 10 October 2026 (UTC). The YTD chip stays provisional until the year closes.

What was ETH's return in 2025?

Ethereum returned −11.0% over calendar 2025, from the 2024 close to the 2025 close. Its best month was July at +48.8% and its worst February at −32.2%.

What are ETH's returns year by year?

Ethereum's completed calendar years on Coinfuty: 2015 −67.0%, 2016 +753.6%, 2017 +9,396%, 2018 −82.4%, 2019 −3.2%, 2020 +470.2%, 2021 +399.3%, 2022 −67.5%, 2023 +90.9%, 2024 +46.1%, 2025 −11.0%. 6 of 11 years closed positive, and 2026 is down 15.6% so far.

What has ETH returned per year on average?

The median completed year for Ethereum is +46.1%, across 11 full years on record. The median is used instead of the mean because Ethereum's yearly results are extreme in both directions, and one outlier year would distort a simple average.

Which years were ETH's best and worst, and by how much?

Ethereum's best completed year on record is 2017 at +9,396% and its worst is 2018 at −82.4%. Both are compounded from monthly returns, so they match what a position held through the entire year would have earned.

What is Ethereum's average annual return?

Every completed year's compounded ETH return is listed here and the readout above the grid quotes the median across them. Because Ethereum's yearly results are extreme in both directions, that median is a more honest summary than a simple average.

Why does ETH's table show fewer years than Bitcoin's?

ETH's history here begins at its first daily perpetual-futures candle on Binance in November 2019, and each row needs a calendar year — so the table is exactly as deep as its perpetual history and grows as years close.

Why is the yearly return not the sum of the twelve months?

Because returns compound. A +10% month followed by a −10% month leaves −1%, not 0%. The yearly totals multiply the monthly factors together, which is what a held position would have earned.
